RSE at St Philip Howard

“I HAVE COME THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE LIFE AND HAVE IT TO THE FULL.” (John 10:10)

At Saint Philip Howard, our Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is a vital part of our wider Personal Development curriculum. In line with DfE statutory requirements and the Catholic Education Service (CES) guidance, we aim to help every student grow into confident, compassionate, and responsible young adults.

Our RSE programme helps students navigate the challenges of modern life by giving them the knowledge, understanding and skills to make informed choices about their wellbeing, health and relationships, rooted in the values of respect, dignity and love.

RSE is taught primarily through Personal Development lessons and is supported through Religious Education, assemblies, and the wider curriculum. We ensure all content is taught through a Catholic Christian lens, exploring the beauty of human relationships, self-worth and the dignity of every person.

Our curriculum is age-appropriate, inclusive, and responsive to the real issues young people face today. It covers topics such as:

  • Healthy friendships and family life
  • Self-respect, body image and self-esteem
  • Puberty, personal hygiene and fertility
  • Consent and respect in relationships
  • Online behaviour, influence and safety
  • Sexuality, gender and human dignity
  • The impact of drugs, alcohol and the media
  • Marriage, commitment, and moral decision-making
  • Managing emotions, pressure and personal boundaries

Our aim is for every young person to understand that they are loved and valued, created in the image of God, and called to live life “to the full” — with integrity, compassion and purpose.
